Tuk Tuk Thai Cafe

Category: Thai
Neighborhood: North Beach/Telegraph Hill

4 star rating
 02/20/2008
I live like on top of this place so I've eaten at or ordered from them more than 5 times in a week. I don't know how I lived before Tuk Tuk Thai (but back then washbag was still in business, long lived washbag!)... They don't really speak much English, but usually you can order what you want successfully. Probably the best thai food around here. Those a couple blocks away are nice but they take too long for just a casual dinner and they're pretty overpriced... Tuk Tuk Thai is just right... The most efficient way is to call in, give them the numbers of the shit you want (safest way to order lol), and go pick them up in like 15 minutes...

I don't really like dining in, at least not in the winter, coz the door is way too close to the tables and it gets real cold when people walk in and out of the place, which is very often coz it seems like 80% of their business are takeout...

oh they also delivery free of charge, but they might laugh if I tried that coz I really do live on top of them... they open til quite late, huge plus...

if they took amex i would give them 5 stars... visa/mc only unfortunately...

SFO Snowboarding

Just picked up Burton AK snowboard jacket and pants, gf picked up a drop Burton overall, we got them at 20% off which is a great deal even if you comparison shop online. I picked up some other random gear like new gloves and first layer, they gave me 10% off everything else, which is great... The staff was real chilled and knowledgeable, most are like pro boarders or something, pretty cool...

I wish they threw in some SFO stickers or something though, hah... We kindda got the snowboarding bug and have visited pretty much all the stores in and around SF, also been to most of the online sites. SFO, despite the store is probably the smallest, got the best selections of pretty much everything. They got great discount on last year's models of gears too, and 10% off current-year model.

La Trappe

We just got back from La Trappe, it was so good. The beer menu was really impressive, they even have a $350 6L bottle of beer. The 4 of us had mussels, oysters, pork chop, risottos, and more mussels, everything was amazing. The pork chop was probably the best of all. Dessert was alright, not the best or anything but decent. Their downstairs is really chilled, they have a bar there that looks like the kindda place i would hang out with good friends to talk about fashion and what not... I live a few blocks away from it, so will def go back often...

Hyatt Hotels & Resorts

We stayed at Hyatt for 5 days and loved it. We got a package deal from Travelocity and it was a GREAT deal, we picked Hyatt because of the reviews here and at TripAdvisor.

The hotel is located steps away from Waikiki beach, if this is your first time in Hawaii that's the beach you should check out. Also best for babes-watching according to my local friend. It is also a few blocks away from most shopping (like Leather Soul of Hawaii) and about 2 miles away from Aloha Rag.

We got a mountain-view room (vs beach view) coz it was slightly cheaper, it doesn't really matter coz you can just walk over to the beach if you wanna look at it. The room was pretty damn huge, had a king size bed, T-Mobile wifi access, an iHome for your iPods, flat screen TV, and a small balcony. Definitely not bad for the price and it was nice to have lots of extra space, a nice change from our small apartments in SF. If you join the free Hyatt Gold Passport program you get free coffee and newspaper daily. The locker is $3 daily, pretty reasonable. Our vacation package also came with free breakfast, which was really nice coz it is a pain to figure out what to eat more than once a day, and obviously most places aren't exactly cheap there. The free breakfast is not the best or anything, but not bad for the price. lol.

In the reception area there is a counter for Expedia "Local Experts". I was extremely busy at work before the vacation so I didn't have time to make plans on what to do there. Expedia Local Experts was really helpful, they were able to give us recommendations on activities and help us book tours and tickets and everything, you can bill directly to your room as well. They helped us with pretty much everything, Dole Plantation and North Shore tour, luaus, snorkeling, etc.

We ran out of time so we didn't get to try the spa in the hotel. The Local Experts actually suggested the spa at Hilton over the spa in the hotel, but we couldn't fit in an appointment with our schedule. next time.

They have exotic birds in the hotel, we loved them, they were just so cool, we visited them daily and we def miss them a lot when we left.

Overall we were real happy with Hyatt and Oahu was a ton of fun, highly recommended. We would def consider staying there again.

I get my eyebrows and manicure from them, cheap and good. They usually don't have too many people in the middle of the day so I won't feel weird getting shit done coz I'm a guy...

Blue Bottle Coffee Co.

This is the best coffee in SF... Ritual is up there with it too, but recently Blue Bottle has been my favorite. I love the garage setup, very cool, the line actually wasn't all that long the last several times I was there, maybe I got lucky. Their cappa and latte are just perfect, the latte arts on top are always on point. Perfect weekend afternoon: cappa from Blue Bottle, shopping at Hayes Valley (mainly Azalea, Gimme Shoes, and Huf)...

one of the bars in my hood i would randomly find myself in on a weekend day, upstairs is great spot for people-watching... you will see the regular homeless, tourists, and occasionally sf locals walk by... if you like sports they also got a few plasma displays for that...

I live close by and finally decided to check this place out, wasn't disappointed. The service was great, the waiter turned out to be into photography, skating, BMX, and denim as well... The bone marrow appetizer was awesome, I had the ribeye, it was kindda salty but the white beans balanced out the taste quite well. price was decent, dinner for 2 with beer, pellegrino x 2, coffee came out to be just under 100 bucks... def will be back...

I made my reservation via opentable and they called the morning of to confirm, definitely a nice touch...
